Weather is what you get

Another crazy-weather Oklahoma day is upon us. This morning when Hubby left for work the temperature was a balmy 56 degrees, warm for January. Monkey was excited about the warm weather because he loves to walk to school. The sun was shining and the birds were singing when I sat down at 9:30, in the living room, to do my homework. Since the back wall of our house is all window, all the time, it didn’t take long for the living room to warm up. The wind picked up just about the time I got up to start lunch, so I stepped out the back door. That was a bitter wind and all the warmth of the morning had been drained away.

With lunch started, I sat back down at my homework. Not 5 minutes had past until Hubby called to ask if he needed to drive Monkey to school and I answered, “Oh, yeah.” Poor little guy, he was very disappointed when I told him we couldn’t walk to school. On his way back home, Hubby called and told me that Monkey might be a little late but absolutely, under no circumstances was I to take the kids outside.

We all drove Monkey up to school and I walked him to his building. In the short time that I was inside the building the cold, north wind began to blow even harder. That walk back to car was brutal, my ears and cheeks stung with the cold. I got in the car and said, “It’s not just cold out there, it is icy-grip-of-death cold out there.” And I meant it, that wind is killing cold.

I looked at the temperature gauge in the car, it said 34 degrees, a drop of 22 degrees since morning. Not wanting to get Pumpkin out of the car until we got home, I stopped at Sonic after we dropped Hubby at work. They have a drive-thru now and when I handed the lady my 2 bucks for the largest Dr. Pepper they have the wind almost tore the money from my hand. And I fought that stupid wind all the way back to the House.

This is just exactly the kind of weather that I’ve come to expect in Oklahoma, warm one minute, frigid the next. We’re finally starting to get past the mess from the ice storm, so I’m just hoping that we don’t get any more ice or snow for awhile.
